A flag made of sugar

The Portuguese flag on canvas, made with three kilos of sugar.

Among Paradise Shoman's works is the Portuguese flag on canvas, 100 by 60 cm, made with three kilos of sugar, coffee, ketchup and restoring materials.

The material is personal. The flag is tied to her own decision about sugar in her life, and the work carries that choice in its surface. It is her story, told through her art.

The flag travelled to several places in Portugal, shown with other Orphic Herz work. She has received generous offers for it and declined them; her bond with the piece remains.

Thyme, Coffee and Chocolate was painted using those food materials, bringing familiar ingredients into art.
